HERITAGEREVIVAL

Helen Stone,-Interiors Writer

Employing our rich history of surface design, this maximalist trend draws on our archives to create bold decorating looks

The luxe look of pattern on pattern is all about creating an immersive decorating scheme, one that can carry you away to a whole other world. It’s a beautiful way to add character to any room, through the patterns you choose, the fabrics and accessories you add in, and the details that you emphasise.

Our Heritage Revival trend looks to the past for future influences and is inspired by a new band of interior designers who are imaginatively reinventing the classics. So where to start? A bold pattern will set the mood and the colour palette so find a wallpaper or fabric that makes your heart sing. If you are planning on plain walls, choose your main pieces of furniture and find a paint shade to complement. Where wood tones are the fixed point, find the optimum colour that will bring out their best.

When developing this look, our Home Design Studio team looked to the established things that bring us comfort. Antiques and inherited pieces that reassuringly root us to our heritage. Plush fabrics that add comfort, gilt and glass. Unique one-off accessories that have their own stories to tell. Forget stuffy drawing rooms – this look should be a breath of fresh air filled with joy and escapism.

There is so much fun to be had in the styling. Plump those cushions, create an opulent tablescape, fill the bar cart ready for entertaining – the Heritage Revival trend combines the reassurance of the past with unwavering hope for the future.

Hang pendants low to create a soft, moody light, then set the table with a mix of timeless dinnerware and stylish glassware
