The casual brands to try now

Best casual brands for men

Still on the hunt for pieces to tone down your day-to-day wardrobe? These four brands have the answer…

Being both casual and well-dressed at the same time was a struggle until last year, and being well-dressed, for most, meant smartening up with a suit and all the trimmings. Thankfully, the last year has also brought to light a whole new way of staying smart, without a two-piece in sight. This is about a new class of casual: relaxed, comfortable pieces that you’ll still wear post-lockdown. Here are four brands doing it perfectly.

1.

Kin

Kin, a homegrown brand by John Lewis & Partners, has been making waves in menswear since its launch in 2013. Always keen to be ahead of the curve, Kin’s new season is full of heavyweight loungewear that looks good and feels great. A new colour palette is at its heart, too, with bright blue taking centre stage.

2.

New Balance

Whether you’ve heard of it or not, now is the time to embrace normcore (fleeces, dad trainers, baggier trousers). As practical as they are good looking, New Balance trainers are the perfect example of how to do normcore well. Just pair with a pair of tapered trousers, a heavy cotton sweatshirt and a long, tailored overcoat to round the look off.

3.

Wax London

Wax London’s new season focuses on elevated casualwear – the pieces you might throw on to head to the corner shop or for a spin around the park. They’re casual in silhouette, with boxy shirts that look great undone and worn over long-sleeved T-shirts, and trousers that feel like joggers but look like something much smarter.

4.

Reiss

If you thought Reiss was synonymous with two-pieces and occasionwear, think again. This season, Reiss has gone above and beyond to embrace the casual, with structured joggers, sweatshirts, hoodies and half-zips at the forefront. For these pieces, it’s all about styling. Whether you wear them all in one outfit or alone, go for a look that shows you’re ready to seize the day rather than head back to bed.
