The new-season menswear trends to know
Discover the three looks that will take your style one step further this season
A new season is the perfect opportunity to reinvent yourself. And with autumn upon us, we’re spotlighting the key menswear trends you need to know, from corduroy shirts to bold autumnal tones and utility-style pieces.
For texture: corduroy
First up is cord, which is back with a bang. This fabric first made its way onto the fashion scene in the 70s and was largely forgotten about until recently. This timeless texture is a classic example of blending the durable with the stylish, protecting you from the elements while putting you up there with the best dressed. Not sure where to start? Try a chore jacket – another of this season’s staples – and pair with other simple basics such as a white T-shirt, jeans and a trusty pair of boots, before testing the waters with cord trousers.
For colour: bold hues
By the time the colder months roll around, it can be tempting to hibernate under a pile of your darkest clothes. But this season, that’ll no longer do: it’s time to step out of your comfort zone and add in a pop of colour. It doesn’t have to be childish or garish, but it does need to be something. Pick colours that represent the changing seasons: burnt orange, vivid purple or brilliant blue. Still keen to hold onto those darker tones? Pick your new bright as the solo standout piece and keep the rest of your outfit muted for guaranteed impact.
For silhouette: utility
The utility trend is everywhere, but what exactly does it mean? It’s basically anything that can be classed as serving a purpose, as well as making you look good. If it has multiple pockets, zips or compartments, or is made out of a practical material such as fleece, it counts as utility. So how do you wear it? Start small with outerwear or gilets and move from there to multi-pocket trousers and accessories – a solid bucket hat is always a good choice. Keep the rest of your outfit as minimal as possible to avoid going overboard.
