The simple tweaks that promise to revive weathered and dry skin

Skin taking a beating?  From once a week must-haves to keep it looking its best to the winners that promise to replenish moisture into over-washed hands, we've got practical solutions to reboot your skin – whether you're a skincare novice or a seasoned pro.

Replenish lost moisture

Not all moisturiser is created equal. ‘It’s important to ensure that your routine is focused on hydration, especially after colder months when it’s more susceptible to dehydration,’ explains arns Andrea Pfeffer, founder of London skincare clinic Pfeffer Sal. Focus should be on a more targeted and heavier formula and don't forget about your hands, which will undoubtedly be suffering more at the moment.

Avoid angry and irritated skin

The first rule of skincare? Never pick a spot. Irritating the skin by touching it or using too many harsh products will only make it worse and lead to longer healing time. ‘By picking the skin, you’ll end up overproducing oil to replenish what’s been lost, which can lead to more breakouts,’ warns Andrea. Instead, invest in skincare specifically formulated for acne-prone or sensitive skin.

Boost dehydrated skin with a serum

‘The next step in tackling rehydration is replenishing lost water,’ continues Andrea. While a serum may feel like one step too many, using one with hyaluronic acid is the best way to replenish the skin and alleviate any tightness or dryness after the gym, shaving or just too much time spent in central heating.

Exfoliate once a week for brighter skin

Exfoliation is a must for smooth, great-looking skin, and applying a mask the morning of the event will help to enrich, nourish and hydrate,’ Andrea explains. The best tip? Avoid harsh scrubs if you have sensitive skin and use a gentle exfoliator just once a week to dust off old skin cells.
