In the summer months, the skirt usually runs second fiddle to the dress, which steals all the glory thanks to its ability to make a floaty bohemian statement in one easy step. But, I urge you to consider the skirt’s merits too. First of all, it is hugely versatile – you can style it so many ways, giving it longevity in your wardrobe through summer and beyond. Perhaps you’ll wear a printed midi with a simple white tee one weekend, then switch up the T-shirt for a crisp white shirt and it’s good to go for the office. You can also dress skirts up or down easily – it’s just a matter of changing your footwear. Finally, a good skirt achieves that smart-casual sweet spot of never being too casual but equally not too dressy – and that’s a happy sartorial space to be, right?
