Head to Peter Jones and update your wardrobe in a sustainable way this winter

In the early Noughties, vintage clothing enjoyed a renaissance. Endorsed by fashion icons like Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller, it became more sought after than many runway creations. Fast forward to 2023 and sustainable pre-loved fashion is now firmly at the heart of the fashion world…including Peter Jones.

Throughout December and January, Peter Jones on Sloane Square is hosting a Sign of the Times pop-up where you can search for pre-loved pieces, from handbags and footwear to jackets, all from the Noughties and Nineties, to add to your wardrobe.

Another style hallmark of the early Noughties that isn’t going anywhere any time soon was the emergence of ‘high low’.

CHANEL white vintage bag

Most of us can remember Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw pairing $300 shoes with a $7 dress. A cleverly hunted-down vintage find, whatever its price, suddenly had more fashion caché than an off-the-rack designer piece, creating an environment where a preloved designer piece became the most sought after status symbol of all.

After all, in a world where scarcity is the definition of desirability, what could be more covetable than a thoughtfully restored vintage Chanel handbag?

‘No one wants to look exactly like someone else – where’s the fun in that?’ Antonia says. ‘There’s nothing quite as special as finding a unique-to-you secondhand find from one of your favourite designers at a phenomenal price.’

Whether it’s nostalgia, upping the ante on your fashion credentials or simply an easy route to timeless style, vintage isn’t going anywhere.

The Sign of the Times pop-up at Peter Jones runs until 31 January
