Stir-up Sunday bake-off

Helen Stone,-Interiors Writer

Making your own Christmas cake and pud? Aprons on and bakeware at the ready…

Falling five weeks before Christmas, Stir-up Sunday is the traditional day for cooking Christmas puddings and fruit cakes (they need time to mature, helped by regular feeding with tots of brandy).

Get the kids involved, dig out a festive soundtrack, give the Christmas jumpers an early outing and make sure you have all the right kit from a sturdy mixing bowl to spatulas, spoons and an electric mixer to supply some extra elbow grease. Need a new cake or pudding recipe? Check out these festive favourites from our partners at Waitrose.
