Head to the Med with this eclectic trend – it’s made for indoor and outdoor living, with beautiful materials and a sun-bleached colour palette

Inspired by the design and culture of southern France, our Modern Mediterranean trend brings together natural materials alongside soft pastels and the sun-bleached hues of terracotta, plaster and pistachio. It radiates a calming, laid-back vibe that embodies creativity.

‘The indoor/outdoor style with its relaxed holiday feel makes spaces feels inviting and sociable, places that you want to spend time in,’ says Philippa Prinsloo, Partner & Head of Product Design Home. ‘Rattan really makes a statement here. From bed frames to storage, its tactile properties and natural finish work well in any room.’

The Home Design Studio was drawn for inspiration to the town of Arles in the Provence region of France. ‘Arles is known as a creative refuge, with a lovely relaxed vibe,’ says Fionnuala Johnston, Partner & Senior Designer Home. ‘We loved its many romantic courtyards – they evoke such a feeling of nostalgia for beloved summer holidays.’

Key pieces for Fionnuala? ‘Ooh, so many,’ she enthuses, ‘but I love the way this trend comes to life for dining, with lots of lovely recycled glass, patterned table linens and scalloped tableware. Have fun and play around  mixing and matching tableware and ceramics to give an eclectic and individual feel.’

With natural textures and a delicate mix of patterns including stripes, florals and even a bee print, this relaxed look is perfect for almost any room. ‘Bring this trend into your bedroom, creating a relaxed, casually layered look that’s so easy to live with,’ says Fionnuala.

The rattan trend is here to stay. Introduce it into the home where you would usually opt for plain wooden designs, such as dining chairs or storage. You’ll love its craftsmanship for years to come
