Shop the sales to give your bedroom a new look that’s all about creating a restful retreat

As summer approaches and we start opening our bedroom windows to let the cool breeze and birdsong in, now is the perfect time to turn that space into a sanctuary, a space away from everyday life. Shop smart in the sales and buy bedding and accessories that will revive your space – from new basics, such as pillows and duvets, to bold bed linen designs, there are plenty of bargains to inspire a bedroom makeover.

Go back to basics

If your duvet has lost its bounce and lies pancake-flat on your bed, then before you just plump for a new cover, shop for what goes inside it first. Take advantage of Special Buys, which always offer great savings – you can save up to 50% on main range equivalents. Look at the tog rating; you should be into your summer duvets by now, with 4.5 tog a good weight for those warmer nights.

When it comes to pillows, if you wince every time you change your pillowcases, then it’s time to replace. Choose a replacements that are washable and add pillow protectors to your order.

If you’ve been suffering with poor sleep of late, then it could be time for a mattress change. Before you shop, read our guide, but with savings of up to 20%, a new one could be the best investment in self care you can make.

Bring in new furniture

‘We’re being braver when it comes to bedroom furniture,’ says Fionnuala Johnston, Partner & Senior Designer, Home Design Studio. ‘We’re wanting more personality, with a statement bed that might not match the bedside tables or the fitted wardrobes.’ Shop the sales for those individual pieces that you love, while looking for furniture that has maximum storage – such as taller chests either side of your bed in place of bedside tables.

Luxe out on linens

Be smart in the sales and you can dress your bed for a snip. Unless you’re quick off the mark, you might not get a whole matching set of a duvet cover and two-four pillowcases, so choose a colour palette that has lots of pieces available across several bedding designs. Team a striped pillowcase with plains, work in a flat sheet in a tone or two darker than your duvet cover or combine natural linens with bedding that has a higher thread count.

Layer up shades, textures and patterns to dress your bed, adding throws and cushions for an easy style update. Even one hero cushion and a throw can give that boost plain white bed linen might need. Choose a design that catches your eye – clearance is the perfect excuse to be that little bit braver.

Light up for less

Don't overlook your bedroom lighting – a hero pendant or pair of bedside lamps can soften the mood of your space. Go low with a pair of smaller pendants hung either side of your bed or make a bold style statement with a dramatic ceiling light above your bed.
