A fashion editor’s Christmas wishlist

Fashion Editor's Christmas gift guide

Here’s what our very own fashion editor has got her eye on this Christmas – if you’re reading this Santa…

1. The perfect sweater

At the top of the list of things a woman really, really (truly, actually) wants for Christmas is a jumper. With all the merits of an excellent hug (see warm and comforting) and none of the negatives (you don’t have to help it make dinner), an oversized, wear-with-everything knit is festive season gold. For those with their eye on contemporary style, opt for neutral tones and a sweater with a high funnel neck that’s perfect for face burrowing.

2. The stylish hiking boot

From Greta Thumberg to Lady Hale, women took no prisoners in 2019. The year’s stand out shoe – a firm-soled hiking boot that’s built for those with business to attend to – is representative of this mood. Undoubtedly, a well chosen pair of hiking boots are the ultimate built-to-last gift. For extra fashion Brownie points, throw in a pair of authentic hiking boot laces in a vibrant shade.

3. The luxe pyjama set

All I want for Christmas is a lie in. I’m not alone. How else to account for the great British public’s renewed appreciation for lounge and sleepwear, which has increased tenfold in 2019? Invite your favourite women to stay home in style with a pair of decadent PJs. This piped navy pair are what sofa sessions are all about.

4. The It bag

Mulberry’s reinvention into a pared back accessory label which prides itself on its homegrown heritage makes it the perfect way to share the love this Christmas. Reborn under the creative direction of Johnny Coca, Mulberry is revered for its high quality craftsmanship and subtle details. The classic Darley bag in grainy leather is a lovely gift for the woman on the hunt for an accessory that doesn’t drown out the rest of her look, or her personality for that matter.

5. The sheepskin slipper

While I’ve never fully understood the appeal of sheepskin boots, Ugg’s indoor alternatives win my vote every time. A hiding place for cold and weary feet to be reborn, the Scuffette slipper could well be the most comfortable shoe on the planet. Warning: you’ll want to wear them to work, and everywhere else.

6. The designer sunglasses

Whether you’re bound for winter sun (hello, Maldives) or just looking for a way to block out the glare from the frost, you might as well look great doing it. These Gucci sunglasses are the stocking filler of which the chicest dreams are made.

7. The cashmere socks

If staying in with a glass of something spirited and Strictly is your idea of the perfect Saturday night, you’d do well to ask Santa for the right accessories. In super-soft cashmere, these cuddly companions are a Christmas no brainer.

7. The festive hat

Along with birthday cards and expensive PJs, woolly hats are one of those things we never buy ourselves. Which is exactly what makes them a perfect festive gifting option. Certainly, the possibilities are endless with beanies, pompom hats and berets a fine way to show you care this winter. For a classic look, opt for a pared-back colour and don’t skimp on quality.
