Easy winter outfit inspiration

Brrr... it’s cold. Hands up if you’re wearing the same two woolly jumpers and chunky boots on repeat? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with turning to cosy staples to see you through the cold snap, but if you want to mix things up, there's a few easy styling tricks to make cold weather outfits feel fresh. Here’s how. 

Winterising your summer staples suddenly opens up a wealth of new outfit opportunities. Case in point: try a chambray boilersuit over a thermal rollneck and ankle boots. You could also try layering the same item under a sleeveless dress.

Winter doesn’t have to automatically equal a uniform of black, grey and navy. Sporting white at this time of year has been given the stamp of approval by the world’s most stylish women and conveys a sense of polished luxury. Don’t worry about sporting the exact same shade from top to toe – touches of beige and oatmeal balance out this sort of tonal look perfectly. 

The lumberjack shirt/checked coat may have been adopted by the modern-day hipster, but give this item a miss at your own peril. Easy, warm and with a unisex appeal, a classic check adds interest to plain jeans and knits. Accessorise with a ladylike bag if it feels too androgynous.  

Knee-high boots really are the secret weapon in any winter wardrobe. Negating the need for tights when worn with midi skirts, they look more contemporary and feel less corporate than sporting a pair of opaques. This office-appropriate look fuses a variety of natural textures – from soft silks to tactile tweeds – which will feel lovely against your skin while adding interest to your outfit.
